Declared English majors with fewer than 24 semester hours completed are officially advised in the Academic Advising Center, but the advisors are happy to discuss English major requirements at any point in a student’s academic career.

Ben Ahlrichs is a second-year student studying English and creative writing on the pre-law track. In his free time, he is a writing fellow, and the Social Media Co-Chair for the Presidential Scholars Program. He enjoys reading, writing, and hanging out with his friends. His favorite class he has taken while at Iowa is Writing and Reading Young Adult Fiction. 

 

Jacob (Jake) Boudreau is a second-year student majoring in English and Creative Writing and Linguistics with a minor in translation for global literacy. He is originally from La Crescent, Minnesota which is a small town right on the Mississippi River. He is also a translator for the Translate Iowa Project as well as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in a Linguistics lab. His favorite parts about the department are the wonderful faculty members and students he has had the pleasure to meet so far along with the community of writers and academics he has been able to engage with.

Kate Torno works with all English or English & Creative Writing majors.  She also meets with English minors and students considering English coursework for electives.  She is the administrative advisor for English handling the waitlists and caps for the ENGL and CNW courses.

Christine Norquest advises undergraduate students in the Departments of English (English and English & Creative Writing) and Gender, Women’s & Sexuality Studies (Gender, Women’s & Sexuality Studies and Social Justice).

Scheduling an Advising Appointment

Schedule an appointment if you have detailed questions about such things as: your degree audit and requirements, study abroad, careers or graduate school opportunities, or you need to complete financial aid (SAP) forms. Appointments cannot be scheduled during Walk-in Hours.

If you are a declared English major, please use the Online Scheduler.  The scheduler is also found in MyUI under Advising Appointments.  If you are making a full academic plan or have a complicated situation, you might want to schedule two back-to-back appointments to get more time.
