In June of 2006, a group of students from the NWP and the PhD program at the University of Iowa spent from two weeks to a month at La Muse Inn in the heart of Cathar country in the south of France, near the medieval fortress of Carcassonne. Led by NWP Director, Robin Hemley and David Hamilton, editor of the Iowa Review. students wrote, participated in workshops, and toured southern France and Northern Spain.
The first (2005) Overseas Writing Workshop visited the Philippines. The next one will visit Hong Kong and Macau from May 19th-31st, 2007 and will be led by Robin Hemley and Hong Kong novelist and essayist, Xu Xi.
The Overseas Writing
Workshop is available for credit and non-credit to students in the NWP, MFA
students at the University of Iowa, MFA students at other degree-granting
